Job Overview:

The Overhead Crane Service Technician will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and installation of overhead cranes and related equipment. The successful candidate will possess a strong technical background, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety. This role requires working both independently and collaboratively with other technicians and clients to ensure optimal performance of crane operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Primarily perform Electrical and Mechanical maintenance on automated packaging and distribution equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, and upgrades on overhead cranes, conveyors, automated packaging and storage systems, including but not limited, to Kardex Remstar, Dematic, Intelligrated, and Hytrol package sort systems, and other automated distribution equipment.
  • Repair hoists, pneumatic, electrical and mechanical components.
  • Read diagrams and schematics drawings to and troubleshoot VFD’S, contractors, fuses, and circuit boards 
  • Maintain electrical, pneumatics, hydraulics and mechanical knowledge via on-going training, industry workshops and technical reading.
  • Install and commission new overhead crane systems and equipment as required.
  • Respond promptly to service calls and customer inquiries regarding crane malfunctions or maintenance needs.
  • Maintain accurate service records, work logs, and documentation of all repairs and maintenance conducted.
  • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot issues and develop solutions for clients’ overhead crane systems.
  • Follow safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment while on-site.
  • Provide training and technical support to clients on safe crane operation and maintenance practices.

Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in mechanical or electrical engineering is preferred.
  • 3 years of proven experience as an Overhead Crane Technician or in a similar role; familiarity with various types of cranes (e.g., bridge, gantry) is highly desirable.

Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, hydraulics, and PLCs.
  • Proficient in the use of diagnostic tools and equipment for troubleshooting and repair.
  • Basic welding and fabrication skills
  • Comply with all safety rules and regulations both within the company premises as well as on customer’s jobsites, including client specific on-site training
  • Utilize sound decision making and problem-solving practice
  • Has experience with rigging and lifting equipment with cranes, forklifts, telehandler, etc.
  • Proper and safe use of company vehicle, comfortable towing and backing up trailers as well securing loads with chains or straps as necessary
  • Quick comprehension, flexible and punctual
  • High standard of quality and attention to detail
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently with limited direct supervision after training
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with team members, customers, and subcontractors
  • Capable to comfortably work at heights on scissor lift, ladders, scaffolding, etc.
  • Maintain work area and vehicle in clean and orderly condition
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic knowledge in the use of computers and basic data entry skills 
  • Positive attitude and ability to comply with company policies and procedures
  • Consistently maintain the highest standards in serving the customer’s needs
  • Maintain and strengthen customer relationships by acting professionally and as a representation of the Hoj values
  • Ability and willingness work extra hours including overtime, on-call rotations, and occasional travel, according to business needs 
  • Must have a valid drivers’ license with a good driving record
  • Must have U.S. Work Authorization
  • Must be able to pass background checks and ongoing random drug screenings

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand and work for long hours with necessary tools and PPE.
  • Able to perform physical labor including lifting/moving heavy objects up to 100 lbs., prolonged standing, sitting, bending, pulling, pushing, kneeling, and reaching
  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in various year-round weather conditions
